CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

PRESIDENT- ELECT

Shelley Nicholson

Director of Women’s Programs – Worcester Polytechnic Institute

MCPA has been a vital part of my professional development for the past five years. I started my involvement with MCPA as most of us do, by attending events and meeting others who encouraged me to get involved.  My first official role in MCPA was as liaison for the ACPA Standing Committee for Women.  Upon completion of my term, I took over the role of Membership Chair. This position has allowed me to reach out to our membership in numerous ways and has prepared me for my next step in MCPA.  Through involvement in conference planning committees, I have been able to make further contact with various members of MCPA.

I have worked at institutions in Boston and Worcester; first as the Director of Multicultural Services at MCPHS and then in my current position as Director of Women’s Programs at WPI. This has allowed me to better understand and appreciate the needs of our members in two distinct areas of the state.

I am passionate about my involvement with MCPA, an organization that I care deeply about.  I would like the opportunity to further engage our membership and insure that MCPA is meeting the needs of its members through out the state. This year, I conducted a membership survey and one of the themes that reemerged time and again was inclusion.  Should I be elected President-Elect inclusion is the theme I would carry into my term in an effort to fully represent all of our membership through out Massachusetts.

SECRETARY

Catherine DesRoche

Associate Director of First Year Programs and Leadership Development - Emmanuel College

My name is Cat DesRoche, and I am running for the position of Secretary of MCPA.  I am excited and feel privileged to have been nominated to continue in serving MCPA in this position.  I feel this past year on the board has taught me a lot and I have learned so much from my colleagues on the board and within the entire organization.  This past year, I represented MCPA on the All of the Above Conference Committee.  It was great to share with other organizations what MCPA does and how we can enhance their professional experience.  What I hope to do with more time on the board is revive the Shadow Program for our new professionals and seasoned colleagues.  I believe this is a program that would be of great service to our members both as mentors and as mentees.  We all have many different experiences to share with one another and this would be a great opportunity to do that.  It would be a privilege to serve my terms as Secretary with enthusiasm and hard work!

MEMBER – AT- LARGE

2 positions available

Jennifer Cassavant
Assistant Director of Residence Life – Bentley College

Hello, my name is Jennifer Casavant and I am writing today to ask for your vote in the upcoming MCPA elections.  The position I am seeking is “member at large” and, to more fully explain why I want to serve, I’ll tell you a bit about myself.

I am currently the Assistant Director of Residence Life at Bentley College. I have been at Bentley for four years, having started as an RD. My experience with MCPA began at about the same time as my time at Bentley.  I started by attending social events and over time became more involved.  My most recent MCPA affiliation was as a member of the 2008 MCPA Drive-In Conference planning committee.   I have discovered that my experiences in the job have been complemented and enhanced by my involvement with MCPA. As I have found my MCPA involvement rewarding, I would now like to give back to the organization and help to foster professional development and connectivity for other professionals in the state. I believe I am hard working, organized, enthusiastic, and friendly—and, if you elect me, I will try to prove to you that my self assessment is accurate!

Thanks for your time and attention.

Jen

Danielle A. Morgan

Resident Director - Salem State College

I am currently an RD at Salem State College and am looking forward to getting more involved in MCPA next year.  I served on the MCPA Conference Committee and presented a program, and helped with planning the MCPA Social and Showcase at ACPA this year.   I am also on the ACPA Standing Committee for Graduate Students and New Professionals and served on the NACURH and NEACURH Board of Directors when I was a student.  I did my undergraduate and MAT at Clark University in Worcester, and will be completing my M.Ed. in Student Affairs this summer from Salem State.  I have really enjoyed my time in Massachusetts and would love to work with MCPA to increase our membership and encourage others to network, get involved, and continue their professional development.  I think the Member-at-Large position is perfect for me because it will allow me to take my involvement to the next level, communicate with others and find out what they are looking for in a state organization, and continue to highlight the great things that MCPA provides to its membership!

Gregory Snoddy

Associate Dean of Students – Worcester Polytechnic Institute

My name is Gregory Snoddy, and I am a candidate for the Member-at-Large position with MCPA. I serve as the Associate Dean of Students at WPI, and recently attended the Drive-in Conference at Bridgewater State. As I enjoyed the experience of interacting with a group of colleagues who obviously enjoy each other’s company, I decided to become more involved with the organization.

My specific interests are encouraging Student Affairs staff from the many institutions around the state to get involved in professional organizations – for both personal as well as professional development and benefit. This requires an effort to reach out to colleagues all around Massachusetts, including our smaller institutions that many times have single person offices. Gaining statewide involvement will benefit the organization.

I have no agenda – just a positive attitude, strong work ethic, common sense, and a desire to help the organization and colleagues throughout the state. Having said this, I hope you’ll consider me for a Member-at-Large position with MCPA.
