Massachusetts College Personnel Association Elections 2010- 2011
Candidate Statements

President Elect:

Sara Jacques

Greetings! I am currently an Assistant Director of Academic Advising at Emerson College.  I try to live my life, both professionally and personally, with C. Hoppe’s quote in mind: “...that I have left the earth a better place for what I’ve done and who I’ve been.

If elected as the President-Elect, I would carry this into my work with MCPA for the next three years. This would be an important commitment that I have put a great deal of thought into, and I am very enthusiastic about both the challenges and rewards that would come from this position.  Being part of the MCPA Executive Board for three years, as the Membership Coordinator and a Member-At-Large, has helped me to feel that I am part of the greater community of colleagues in Massachusetts.

Throughout my eleven years of experience in higher education, I've found incredible benefits to getting involved in professional organizations and extending my work beyond my ‘home’ institution. MCPA is an organization that I am very proud of and have grown to truly love. I believe in MCPA’s mission & purpose, specifically our varied efforts to reach out to the various members of our region – graduate students, new professionals and seasoned professionals. I look forward to being part of an executive board that will provide opportunities for learning that are relevant, intriguing and useful at all levels of development. It is my hope that higher education will be a better place for students and staff through what we have done.

I would be so honored to continue serving our membership in a leadership role for MCPA. I genuinely appreciate your consideration!

Members at Large:

Hilary Caron

My name is Hilary Caron and I am an Assistant Director of Residence Life and Residence Director of Saint Joseph Hall at Emmanuel College.  I am running for the Member-At-Large position.  This is my second year being a member of MCPA and I think that this position will afford me the opportunity to take a more active leadership role in MCPA.  This year, I was an active participant in many MCPA events and served on the Drive-In Conference planning committee.  I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this committee and would love the opportunity to continue to be involved in this wonderful organization.

The Member-At-Large position would give me an opportunity to influence the professional and personal development of my peers, learn and grow as a professional, and would allow me to contribute to this wonderful organization.  I feel very passionate about the importance of professional development, and in today's difficult times, we must be collaborative so we can address the changing needs of our students.  As the Member-At-Large, I would do my best to ensure that all members of MCPA are represented and that the professional development opportunities offered would be of great value and relevance to all members.

I graduated with my Master's from Bowling Green State University last May, and while I was there, I was involved in the Bowling Green Student Development Association, OCPA, ACPA, and NASPA. Through my involvement in these various organizations, I have had many opportunities to show my leadership skills, work with a team, plan large-scale events and conferences, and serve as a voice for my peers.  These opportunities have allowed me to grow and become the professional that I am today.  The Member-At-Large position will allow me to share my dedication, loyalty, leadership, talents, and experiences with each one of you to make our organization the best it can be.  Thank you for your consideration.

Jennifer Casavant

Hello, my name is Jennifer Casavant and for the past two years I have served as a Member-At-Large for MCPA.  I am writing today to ask for your vote in the upcoming MCPA elections so that I can continue to serve in this role.

I currently serve as the Assistant Director of Residence Life at Bentley University. I have been at Bentley for five and a half years, having started as an RD. My experience with MCPA began at about the same time as my time at Bentley.  I started by attending social events, and over time became more involved.  I have personally and professionally enjoyed serving as a Member-At-Large for the past two years.  Twice, I have had the opportunity to plan and execute the annual MCPA Drive-In Conference as well as work to provide other enjoyable professional development opportunities for my peers.  This includes planning one of MCPA’s quarterly Coffee Talks, and currently I’m working with other regional organizations to put on the annual Vinny T’s Dinner and Discussion program coming up in April.

I have discovered that my experiences in my job have been complemented and enhanced by my involvement with MCPA.  I have truly found my MCPA involvement rewarding and I look forward to continuing to help to foster professional development and connectivity for other professionals in the state.

Thanks so much for your time and attention,  Jen

Jamica Nadina Love

Working with college students isn’t my job; it’s my life’s mission.

As the Associate Dean of Student Development at Eastern Nazarene College I am blessed to be able to wake up every day and laugh, cry, debate, learn and grow with my students and colleagues.  I am able to share those experiences with my students and colleagues because of the vast professional development opportunities that I receive on the local and regional level.

MCPA has been an organization that gives me the opportunity to network, share resources and socialize.  The opportunity to be a Member-At-Large would allow me to provide more support to MCPA programs and events.
